BCCI may question Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri following Lord's drubbing

Virat Kohli and India are going through a rough patch as they lost the second Test against England at the iconic Lord’s by a humongous margin of an innings and 159 runs. Moreover, they are also trailing the five-match series 0-2 with three matches remaining. The next Test will be played at Trent Bridge from August 18 in Nottingham and the visitors have a daunting task ahead of them.

In the meantime, it has been learned that the Indian skipper and Ravi Shastri, the team’s head coach is likely to be questioned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after their horrendous performance on English soil. As per the world’s richest board, the team was given all the facilities they demanded and the management has the right to question them for their poor show.

The Board is well within its rights to ask questions

“The Indian team can’t complain that they were not given enough time to prepare. When we lost the South Africa series, the players spoke about tight scheduling and lack of practice games. It was after speaking to them that we decided that white ball matches will be held before the Tests.

We arranged white ball matches first. It was on the senior team’s insistence that we send the India A team during the same time starting the concept of ‘Shadow Tour’. Two senior India players (M Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane) were accommodated for A team games,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying in the Times of India (TOI).

“Whatever they wanted, they were provided. Now if results don’t come, the Board is well within its rights to ask questions,” the official added.

In the first match at Edgbaston in Birmingham, the visiting team ran the Brits close, but couldn’t get over the line. The second Test turned out to be a nightmare for India as their batsmen couldn’t counter the might of the English pacers. Their pacers dominated to such an extent that Adil Rashid, the leg-break bowler, wasn’t even introduced even once into the attack.
