BCCI name 16-member India A squad for New Zealand A series, Shubman Gill to lead

The BCCI has announced India A squad for the three four-day games against New Zealand A squad, with Shubman Gill set to lead the side.
Among the ones who have been part of the Test squad for the Indian side, Gill, Hanuma Vihari, Washington Sundar, KS Bharat, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Siraj have all been named while the youngsters who did well in the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season have also been named.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shams Mulani and Shardul Thakur are from the Mumbai contingent while Yash Dubey, Shubham Sharma and Rajat Patidar, who scored a century for Madhya Pradesh in the final of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season, have also been named in the squad.
Shahbaz Ahmed, who recently earned his maiden call-up to the Indian side for the tour of Zimbabwe as a replacement for Washington Sundar, has been included, while Jalaj Saxena, one of the veteran players in the domestic circuit, found a place as well.
The New Zealand A tour is scheduled to start on September 1 and the final four-day game starts on September 15 with three days gap in between the matches. All the games are to take place in Bengaluru and they will be followed by three List A games from September 22 to 27.
India’s next Test assignments in the World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle are against Bangladesh and a high-intensity four-match home series against Australia at the start of next year. India A performances will definitely be considered while picking up the squads for those series.
