BCCI official clarifies Harbhajan Singh’s comments on forfeiting India’s World Cup game against Pakistan
The official also put forth the scenario during the 1999 World Cup.
The Pulwama Attacks in the state of Jammu and Kashmir have turned out to be a massive development in India. The terror-attack was carried out by Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammad with the help of suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar, also a school dropout. Later on, Monday, February 18, three Jaish terrorists were killed in a 16-hour encounter in Pulwama.
The entire nation has condemned the shambolic occurring in the district. DSport has taken down the telecast of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Many also believe that the Men in Blue shouldn’t play their World Cup match against Pakistan on Sunday, June 16 at the Old Trafford in Manchester and one of them who also reckons the same is off-spinner Harbhajan Singh.
The veteran lashed out at Pakistan saying that country comes first before anything else and also remarked that India shouldn’t keep any relation with their neighbouring country as of now. “India should not play Pakistan in the World Cup. India are powerful enough to win the World Cup without having to play Pakistan,” Harbhajan mentioned earlier to a news channel.
So we are all talking about hypothetical situations
In the meantime, a senior official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) threw light on the comments and said that forfeiting the World Cup is a ‘long shot’. It also put forth another incident back in the 1999 World Cup when the Kargil War was hogging all the limelight.
“Harbhajan had shared his point of view but he didn’t clarify what happens if we are again pitted against them in a semifinal or suppose final. Does that mean that we will be forfeiting World Cup semifinal or final? So we are all talking about hypothetical situations,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying in Sportstar.
“For the record, India played Pakistan in a World Cup game in England in 1999 edition when the Kargil war was at its peak,” the source added.
