BCCI pays tribute to MS Dhoni after announcing India squads for Australia tour

After not being able to give MS Dhoni a farewell on the cricket field, BCCI has paid a heart warming tribute to the former India skipper. The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, leaving the cricketing world utterly surprised. The entire cricketing fraternity was sad with the way the World Cup-winning captain walked away from the game.

BCCI didn’t have any option either as far as arranging a farewell game was concerned during the times of the pandemic. But as Team India gear up to play its first series since Dhoni’s retirement, the board made sure to pay a tribute to the legendary cricket. The BCCI announced the squads for the upcoming tour of Australia on Monday.

The Virat Kohli-led are scheduled to play three ODIs, three T20Is and four Tests in Australia. The series will get underway next month. Following the squads announcement, the cricket board paid tribute to the former skipper by updating its cover picture on Twitter. It posted a picture of MS Dhoni with the words ‘#ThankYouMSDhoni’.

Just over a month after announcing his retirement from international cricket, MS Dhoni finally returned to action on the cricket field on September 19 in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). It was his first outing in competitive cricket since the World Cup semi-final loss to New Zealand in July last year.

Dhoni, however, has looked like a pale shadow of his former self in the tournament and has been facing criticism. In 12 games so far, he has managed to score only 199 runs. More than the runs, it is his poor strike-rate that has invited criticism. Just like him, his team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have also failed to do well this season.

Last week, they became the first team to be eliminated from the playoffs race. CSK have failed to progress ahead of the league stage for the first time in the history of the competition. With only 4 wins from 12 games, they are presently languishing at the bottom of the points table. With two more games left, the three-time winners will be looking to bow out of IPL 2020 on a high.
