BCCI sends an invitation to the Nepal Under-19 team for a One-day tournament
Nepal are trying to procure permissions for the series.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken an inspiring initiative and sent a formal invitation to the Nepal Under-19 team for a 50-overs competition in India, beginning from September 9 to September 20. As per latest reports by the state news agency, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), it is also being learned that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore will be part of the One-day series, along with the other neighbours, Afghanistan and Nepal.
However, the Nepal team is still awaiting proper clearance from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to be part of the tournament. Raman Siwakoti, who is the manager of the Nepali cricket team, revealed that the formalities with the ICC for seeking permission to participate in the series will take some time. He also mentioned that many of the players of the Nepal U19 team have just arrived from the Netherlands and the team management will be taking the final call after the discussion with the players. BCCI has also prepared and ready with the schedule of the matches to be played in the upcoming tournament.
The permission formalities will take some days
“It might take some days to decide over the participation in the series. Some of our U19 players who are in the national team are just back from the Netherlands. After consulting with them we will decide,” said Raman as quoted by Sportstar.
The proposed schedule of the one-day series
The schedule formulated by the BCCI states that India will be facing Afghanistan in the opening encounter on September 9 at the Eden Gardens stadium. While on the other side, Nepal will also be playing a team from NCA on the very same day at the Jadavpur University grounds. The NCA side will then be taking on the India Under-19 team on September 16 at the Eden Gardens, whereas Afghanistan would be facing Nepal in the second game of the day at the Jadavpur University grounds.
The top two sides in the tournament will then meet on September 18 for the final encounter to get their hands on the trophy at the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata. The other two teams will also be playing each other to decide on the third and fourth positions at the Jadavpur University.
