BCCI all set to retain coach Anil Kumble?
I have written a letter to the secretary asking him to defer the recruitment process till June 26 when BCCI's SGM will be held: CK Khanna
The BCCI seemed willing to hold on to head coach Anil Kumble till the end of India’s tour to the West Indies and stall the recruitment process. Secretary Amitabh Choudhary had earlier invited fresh candidates to apply for the job of head coach of the Indian Cricket Team.
However, acting president CK Khanna wrote a letter to Choudhary urging him to pick the new coach only after India complete their visit to the Caribbean. A call can only be taken once the Committee of Administrators (COA) give it a final nod.
“I have written a letter to the secretary asking him to defer the recruitment process till June 26 when BCCI’s SGM will be held. At this point in time, it will not be prudent to carry on with the process when India is playing a tournament,” Khanna was quoted as saying to PTI.
“Whether it is Anil Kumble retained or anyone else roped in, whoever gets the job will be given a contract till 2019 World Cup,” he added.
Rajeev Shukla backs Anil Kumble
Likewise, IPL chairman and senior BCCI official Rajeev Shukla also sided with the acting president, and didn’t want the new coach to be selected in such hurry.
“The acting president spoke to senior members and we are all of the opinion that the matter be placed before the SGM in Mumbai on June 26. Till such time, any recruitment process should be kept on hold. Majority of the members are of the same opinion,” Shukla told PTI.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) that comprises of the elite trio of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman were supposed to hold an internal meeting on Thursday. According to reports, the CAC are also backing coach Kumble and don’t wish to replace the legendary leg-spinner with a new man.
