The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made a list of decisions in the ongoing Special General Meeting. One of the most important matters that was passed was with regards to the salary of the players. At the same time, the board also discussed giving the state of Uttrakhand a status along with that the position of Anti-Corruption Unit Chief Neeraj Kumar was also up for deliberation.
The Committee of Administrators (COA) appointed by the Supreme Court of India had proposed a salary hike for the Indian players. There was a new A+ grade of players who played all three formats. COA proposed that A+ grade players (five) be paid Rs 7 crore each per annum, Grade A (seven), Grade B (seven) and Grade C (seven) are set to earn an annual retainer fee of Rs 5 crore, Rs 3 crore and Rs 1 crore each respectively.
While Uttrakhand will have to wait longer to obtain a status from the BCCI. Neeraj Kumar who is a former IPS officer and Commissioner of the Delhi police continues to hold the position as the chief of ACU of the board. The COA had in March agreed to replace Kumar with Ajit Singh who had served as the Director of General Police, Rajasthan. At the SGM a majority of the board officials were of the view that there is no such need to replace the current ACU chief and thus COA’s call wasn’t ratified.
At the same time, as it turns out Aditya Verma, the secretary of Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) that was at loggerheads with the BCCI and took matters to the Supreme Court has apologised to former board president N Srinivasan. Verma had filed a petition against him in the IPL case.
