BCCI state associations discuss major issues of Lodha reforms with CoA

The representatives of the various state associations under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently met the Committee of Administrators in a meeting. The meeting between the CoA and the state association members took place at the BCCI Headquarters in South Mumbai in multiple batches. The CoA was headed by Vinod Rai during the meeting with the representatives.

The meeting was called to discuss some of the major issues that the state associations are facing with the Lodha reforms. The recommendations made by the Lodha panel did not go down with the BCCI and the state associations. However, they have to negotiate to come to terms with the suggested reforms and CoA is responsible to ensure that happens.

As per the reports in FirstPost, a source quoted that the state associations had three major issues addressed to the CoA. One of the key issues was regarding one state one vote rule. The state associations do not want this to be implemented since several states like Maharashtra and Gujarat have multiple state association bodies. The other issues was regarding the cooling off period.

As per the suggested norms, a person in the office is expected to vacate his position after having served for a period of 9 years. The third issue was regarding the selection committee. There have been new set of rules and regulations imposed for a person to be eligible to be a part of the selection committee. “Two, three reservations were discussed. One state-one vote, selection committee and cooling off period of nine years. Age tenure is not that much a major issue,” a source said.

On appointment of new coach

In the meantime, the reporters were quick to ask the acting BCCI Secretary Amitabh Choudhary about the appointment of the new coach. Choudhary was blunt in his response as he quoted, “That’s for the committee to decide”.
