The Indian Women’s cricket team on Thursday defeated the mighty Aussies to storm into the finals of ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. They are just one step away now from creating history. In order to honour the amazing performances by the talented female cricketers, BCCI has decided to reward Mithali Raj and her comrades.
Australia is for obvious reasons the strongest team in women’s cricket. In a rain-curtailed semi-final, Indian batter Harmanpreet Kaur sealed the team’s participation in the final of the grandest stage of women’s cricket. Her exceptional match-winning knock of 171 unbeaten runs from just 115 deliveries will be remembered for a long time. India will now face hosts England in the all important final.
BCCI is proud of the team
Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) acting president CK Khanna confirmed that the female cricketers will be rewarded for their spectacular performance. “BCCI will give a reward to Women’s Cricket Team on their tremendous performance in World Cup. Match by match Indian team is performing so well now, we are proud of them particularly the knock played by Harmanpreet Kaur,” said Khanna while speaking to the news agency ANI.
This is the second time when the women from India will be featuring in the final of the Women’s World Cup. Previously, Rumeli Dhars and Anjum Chopras played in the mega final against the yellow shirts way back in 2005. India was simply outplayed by the Aussies who were the favourites. But this team, comprising of the likes of the Harmanpreet Kaurs and Deepti Sharmas does not know how to surrender.
Hence, we can expect a cracker of a match when the Women in Blue will take on the Three Lions in a match where everything will be at stake. The final will be played on 23rd July at the famous Lord’s cricket ground in London.
