BCCI in troubled waters over Kochi Tuskers Kerala issue

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is facing some serious trouble in regard to the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchise of the Indian Premier League. The board is expected to resolve the pending dues of the Kochi franchise. With every passing day, the pending dues is going to a sky high mark.

As per the recent reports in the Mumbai Mirror, the dues has now escalated to as high as INR 1500 crores. This includes all the interests calculated that is adding up to the cumulative sum. Some of the unofficial sources have revealed that the daily interests imposed on the dues is almost INR 75 lakh. This value shots up to a value of INR 22 crore per month when calculated with the compound interest.

Due to the increasing values in the monetary deficits, the BCCI now is sensing the urgency. They have reached a situation wherein they realise it is very important to come to a settlement in this regard. The top officials of the BCCI, the IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla, the CEO Rahul Johri, and acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary, have all been holding conversations with the owners of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

KTK have their claims

Meanwhile, the owners of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala have their own solutions for the existing problems. They want to see the team back on the IPL roster. However, the BCCI knows that this is not a feasible option by any means. Having 9 teams in the IPL is something that the board cannot afford to have at the moment.

The time frame window that the tournament has is very limited and having 9 teams will be hard to accommodate. The officials have also tried having official and unofficial conversations with the owners of the KTK franchise but all in vain. They would want to get to the conclusion some time soon.
