The meeting between the top Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials ended without any definite outcome after the Indian government on Monday refused clearance for any bilateral series with Pakistan. The Indian board, represented by joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary, CEO Rahul Johri and GM (Cricket Operations) MV Sridhar discuss the pressing issues with the Pakistani board.

PCB claims that it has suffered massive financial losses after India backed off from playing bilateral series with them. However, the Indian board remains adamant and has made it clear that cross-border terrorism will not allow any cricket ties between the two countries to resume.

“The delegations of the BCCI and PCB have met in Dubai today and shared their stated positions. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and its outcome will be shared with the members of their respective boards,” a BCCI release stated.

BCCI will not pay any compensation

It was also revealed that there were some thoughts of a limited-overs series in September when the Champions League T20 was slotted in the past, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

It is learnt that the Indian board in all likeliness will not be paying any damages as it has stood by its stand that unless the Indian government permits, India and Pakistan won’t meet on the field except for ICC tournaments. In fact, BCCI has asked PCB to withdraw compensation claim.

“After today’s statement by the union sports minister, it is unlikely that a series against Pakistan will be held anytime soon. We have told PCB that unless our government gives permission, we will not even be able to play them at a neutral venue like the UAE,” a BCCI source was quoted by PTI.

India and Pakistan will meet only in ICC tournaments

For now, the fans can watch the two arch-rivals play only in ICC tournaments, the closest one being the Champions Trophy clash on June 4.
