BCCI will not lecture Ravi Ashwin for ‘mankading’ Jos Buttler
Some fans are even comparing Ashwin to dignified players like MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid, saying that they wouldn’t have done one such thing.
Among the five matches played in the 12th season of the Indian Premier League so far, the biggest talking point came from the Kings XI Punjab vs Rajasthan Royals game played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The skipper of the Kings, Ravi Ashwin, ‘mankaded’ Royals batsman Jos Buttler, which he termed as an ‘instinctive’ action, but the world saw it as unprofessional and unpardonable.
Many experts said that Ashwin should have warned Buttler before ‘mankading’ him. In the wake of this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also gave its views saying that Ashwin should have maintained decorum, but a senior board official has said they will not be lecturing the spinner on this matter.
“There is no question of lecturing Ashwin on spirit of the game. He did what is permissible within the rules of the game. The umpires and match referees are there to ensure that players compete as per laws of the game,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying on TOI on conditions of anonymity.
“So, the BCCI is not getting involved. As far as Shane Warne is concerned, let’s not forget he is Rajasthan Royals brand ambassador and not a neutral observer,” he added.
MS Dhoni would not have done something like this
When Ashwin was asked to explain what he did, the senior player said that he did it out of the heat of the moment, but was within the rules and regulations of the game. However, several feel that not warning Buttler before ‘mankading’ him was where Ashwin was wrong.
Some fans are even comparing Ashwin to dignified players like MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid, saying that they wouldn’t have done one such thing. Commenting on these comparisons, the BCCI official said, “MS would have never done it but does that make Ashwin wrong? He is someone who is very thorough with rules and regulations and will always exploit the loopholes. There is nothing that can be done.”
