Australia limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch has hinted that Singaporean all-rounder Tim David might be in their scheme of things for getting an international cap for Australia after he has impressed with his exceptional batting performances. It is to be noted, that the budding cricketer has not played any kind of domestic cricket for Australia.
David has been in exceptional form with the bat in the last one-and-a-half months. After emerging as the Mumbai Indians’ best finisher in the just-concluded IPL, the Singaporean cricketer continued his splendid run in the ongoing T20 Blast in England where he scored a blistering 60 runs from 25 deliveries representing Lancashire during their match against Worcestershire. His knock included four fours and as many sixes.
‘The back end of the IPL was fantastic for him’ – Aaron Finch on Tim David
“Yeah, I think so. He’s been in fantastic form for a while now” Finch said as quoted by Fox Cricket. “The back end of the IPL was fantastic for him. He was at his brutal best. The ability to hit from ball one is a pretty rare skill and he’s done that plenty of times now. Him being so consistent, that’s something we will definitely look at over the next little while.”
Although David has yet to achieve fame and fortune at the highest level, he has represented Singapore in 14 T20Is having amassed 558 runs averaging 46.50. The 26-year-old was roped in by the Mumbai Indians at the two-day mega auction in Bengaluru in February this year, at a hefty price tag of INR 8.25 crore. Nonetheless, he warmed the bench for most of the season.
When David got a chance, he made most of it and proved to be a consistent finisher for the five-time champions with a few of his knocks turning out to be match-winning ones. The emerging batter finished IPL 2022 with 186 runs in eight matches at an average of 37.20 and a strike rate of 216.28.
