The Indian team didn’t have an auspicious outing in the first two matches at Edgbaston and Lord’s respectively. Subsequently, they went 0-2 in the five-match series. In a bid to turn their wretched fortunes around, they made quite a few changes. Shikhar Dhawan who was dropped after the first Test made a comeback into the eleven in place of Murali Vijay for the third match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
Vijay bagged a pair at the Home of Cricket and fell prey to James Anderson in both the innings. Dhawan scored 79 runs in the matches and took India to impressive starts on both occasions. The Tamil Nadu-batsman also flattered to deceive in Birmingham and couldn’t counter the fast bowlers. It didn’t spring a surprise that the axe came down on him.
Dhawan and Vijay celebrate
In the meantime, Dhawan is likely to retain his place in the eleven for the remaining two matches at The Rose Bowl and Kennington Oval respectively. After their stupendous victory over the Three Lions, it’s expected that the team would be celebrating with their hearts out. Dhawan posted a picture where he can be seen with a bottle of beer along with Vijay. In the meantime, the same can get the duo in trouble.
Back in 2016, a picture involving the likes of KL Rahul, Umesh Yadav, and Stuart Binny went viral. In the photograph, the trio was seen with a bottle of beer during India’s tour of the Caribbean Islands. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was agitated by their actions and asked the manager to send a message to behave on tour.
The world’s richest cricket board also mentioned that such acts by the cricketers set a bad example. Meanwhile, Dhawan’s photo with Vijay may not go down well with the board. It will be interesting to see the management’s reactions on the post. Dhawan uploaded the picture and wrote, “Celebrating a good victory with a good mate! (beer emojis) #TeamIndia #ENGvIND”.
Here is Dhawan’s tweet
