He hasn’t played international cricket since 2016 but Nottinghamshire cricketer Ben Duckett never falls short of making the headlines, thanks to off-field reasons. The 24-year-old left-hand batsman is time and again caught calling people and teams “joke” on Twitter to face a serious backlash but he is in no mood to rectify himself.

Or maybe his definition for a joke is something that clashes with that of the rest of the world. Whatever it may be, there is still no middle path when it comes to Duckett’s firings on Twitter and the Indian fans’ backlash against them for he has targeted players and teams related to India.

Duckett called Kohli and RCB ‘joke’ earlier

In March, had Duckett called India captain Virat Kohli a “joke” on Twitter after the latter slammed a hundred – his 41st — in an ODI against Australia in Ranchi. The Indian fans roasted him on that occasion for referring one of the world’s best batsmen in such terms.

Earlier this month, Duckett came under fire again for uttering the J-word again, this time addressing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the team led by Kohli in the Indian Premier League. The tweet came after the RCB lost against Kolkata Knight Riders in a game that they looked to win but for the monstrous hitting by Andre Russell. The Englishman was trolled once again for his tweet and this time, even his mother was abused.

Duckett expressed his dissatisfaction with the reactions that he received but as old habits die hard, he posted a tweet again on Wednesday, calling AB de Villiers a “joke”! This he did after de Villiers slammed 82 not out off 44 balls in the game against Kings XI Punjab in Bengaluru. It was the South African batsman’s fifth fifty in 10 games this season and took him past 400 runs in the season.

Duckett, in a response of utter surprise, said in his tweet: “AB De Villiers…. now you sir, are a JOKE!”

The RCB scored 80 runs in their final five overs, thanks to de Villiers’ onslaught and posted a total of 202 for 4 in 10 overs.
