England’s most popular players of the current generation, Ben Stokes, is known for carrying his heart on his sleeve. He is never shy of expressing what he feels and believes. The fiery all-rounder was at his expressive best yet again when he came out in support of his team mate and English opener Jason Roy. He remarked that he was stunned to see Jason Roy being given out obstructing the field in the recent second T20I against South Africa.
Roy’s dismissal was crucial in the context of the game. He was batting exceptionally well and had scored 67 off 45 balls. Whilst he was at crease, things looked pretty much in control of England. However, his departure saw the English team shake a bit in the middle order and eventually fell short by 3 runs in the run chase of 174. Ben Stokes took to social media platform Twitter to express his disappointment at Roy’s dismissal.
Apparently, Roy was seen running in the direction of the throw. After the striker had hit the ball to the point fielder, Roy took off for the run and had to return back midway from the pitch. He looked back at the fielder and changed the direction of his run.
The on-field umpire gave the soft signal as not out but the third umpire ruled him out obstructing the field. Stokes, who has also been dismissed in this fashion earlier in international cricket, noted that he could not believe the way Roy was given out. He called the decision as an embarrassment. Ben Stokes tweeted, “Can’t believe that @JasonRoy20 was given out in that manner today…embarrassment is the only word that can be associated with the decision.”

Little did he know, that he will end up getting trolled for his words on Roy. The Twitterati showed no mercy and started trolling him with replies. Even his own team mate Alex Hales decided to troll Stokes. Hales joked about it saying that atleast Roy did not try to catch it. This was in reference to Stokes’ dismissal of obstructing the field. The fans noted that Stokes is supporting Roy despite knowing the fact that he was actually out.
Here is how they reacted to Stokes’ tweet:
At least he didn't try to catch it

Actually i disagree. I think he was more guilty than you were when given out v Aussie

Why is it embarrassing? It is in rule book, you can see Roy clearly changed his direction 100%. Explain?

he ran across the wicket for no apparent reason. Harsh but fair call by the umps.

He turned and ran to the other side of the wicket. Can't believe ppl not picking that up. Unfortunately that is out. Should have just stayed

Don't feel embarrassed by your teammate's fault …

It was a close decision not an embarrassing one. You guys lost a game you should have won. Focus on that not a 50/50 call…
— Sykin (@sykinakawaqar) June 24, 2017
If it had been a saffer batsman would you still be so upset?
— jasonlowrie (@jasonlowrie) June 24, 2017
Embarrassment. Please. Don't think that is the appropriate word. Rules are rules. Looked at the ball all the way. Not his first cricket game

Dude, he ran across to the other side of the pitch, and looked at where the fielder was.Don't be silly now, he basically covered the wickets

The decision wasn't embarrassing. What @JasonRoy20 did was embarrassing.
