Ben Stokes to feature in Amazon documentary created by Hollywood director Sam Mendes

Stokes will open up on his World Cup and Headingley heroics as well as his off-the-field troubles in the documentary.

England star cricketer and newly appointed Test skipper Ben Stokes is to be the subject of a documentary where he will discuss the highs and lows of his cricketing career so far. The documentary titled ‘Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes’, which is created by Hollywood director Sam Mendes, will be released later this year.

In a 2:44 second video shared by the makers, the cricketing journey of the left-handed batter has been highlighted including his early life and his struggle in his cricketing career so far. To note, the English Test skipper Stokes will be seen in action in a Test series against New Zealand starting early next month.

“The dizzying highs, the crushing lows. England’s talismanic Test captain as you have never seen him before. Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes, coming to Prime Video later this year,” Amazon Prime Video Sport wrote on their Twitter handle while launching the trailer.

Stokes made his Test debut in December 2013 and has represented his country on 79 occasions at this level. He was named vice-captain in February 2017 and also stood in as captain when Root was absent for the birth of his second child in the summer of 2020. The Durham star currently has 5,061 Test runs at an average of 35.89. He has taken 174 wickets with the ball and is amongst the best all-rounders in the world.

Talking about his limited-overs career, the 30-year-old has played 101 ODIs for England and has scored 2871 runs at an average of 40.43. The left-handed batter has stroked 21 fifties and three centuries in the 50-over format. The documentary is expected to throw light on his famous Headingley heroics and some off-field prospects of his life as well. Stokes will start leading his side England in a three-match Test series against England with the first match to be played from June 2 at Lord’s.
