English all-rounder Ben Stokes bagged a hefty sum of Rs. 14.5 crores in the IPL auctions and he did justice to his reputation by performing to his potential and taking his franchise Rising Pune Supergiant to the playoffs. His all-round abilities were crucial to Pune’s chances in the tournament and he excelled with both bat and the ball. He won quite a few matches with both bat and ball and some of his fielding efforts were simply extraordinary.

The star all-rounder has already left to join his national team and won’t be available for the final on 21st May. He also missed yesterday’s encounter which Pune won quite comprehensively in the end by 20 runs. Former English batsman Kevin Pietersen who was a part of the commentary panel for playoffs expressed his disappointment as the ECB didn’t allow Stokes to participate in the playoffs and instead asked him to be present in a training camp at Spain.

Taking to his twitter handle Pietersen wrote, “Absolutely PATHETIC that @benstokes38 & @josbuttler have to go drink a few beers in Spain instead of playing IPL finals!” England face South Africa in a 3 match limited overs series just before the start of the Champions Trophy and the England Cricket Board felt that it was the correct time to call back Stokes.

Stokes took to his Instagram handle and replying to Pietersen posted a story where he shared a video of him working out with a caption, Beers in Spain with a thinking emoji.

Stokes will be England’s trump card in Champions Trophy

Stokes will undoubtedly be England’s most feared player in the Champions Trophy and his performance might decide whether England can break their jinx and go on to clinch their maiden ICC tournament in the 50 overs format. Just a year ago, Stokes went through one of the forgettable nights in his career when a certain Carlos Brathwaite smashed him for four consecutive sixes in the final over to help West Indies clinch the T20 title.
