Ben Stokes trolls himself recalling Brathwaite's heroics in World T20 final
Carlos Brathwaite hit four sixes off the bowling of Ben Stokes in the final over of the finals of the ICC World T20 2016.
The stage was set for the all important big final over of the finals of the ICC World T20 2016 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. English all-rounder Ben Stokes had the cherry in hand and had a plethora of over 20 runs to defend against rookie batsman Carlos Brathwaite. Little did he know about the things that were going to perspire in the moments to follow. The big burly West Indies batsman smashed four consecutive sixes off his bowling to win the World Cup for West Indies.
Stokes, like every other English player and fan, was left disappointed and shattered at the venue. All this happened exactly a year ago on April 3. A certain fan on the micro blogging site Twitter tried to take a subtle dig at Ben Stokes on the first anniversary of the not-so-happy memory of the all-rounder. He tweeted that people still remember the day when Brathwaite hit back to back sixes off the bowling of Stokes on this day last year.
He further added that Stokes would surely remember the day. The fan tweeted, “Remember back to back sixes off the bat of @TridentSportsX (Carlos Brathwaite) on this day last year? I’m sure @benstokes38 still does.”
When some fan tries to troll a player, it might often be seen as an offending remark for the player. Also, there have been instances in the past when players get offended and tend to reply back in a harsh way. However, the all-rounder took the tweet very sportingly and rather self-trolled in a witty way. He remarked that it was not back to back sixes (indicating two sixes in a row), rather four back to back sixes.
A very funny emoticon followed the tweet that totally sums up the way Ben Stokes feels about the incident now. Stokes retweeted and wrote, “Back to back to back to back actually”.
Stokes is currently in India with the Rising Pune Supergiant camp for the upcoming edition of the IPL.
