Ben Stokes will get better with age because of his attitude & character: Hussain
Nasser Hussain said that Stokes is not necessarily a stats man but will rise up to the occasion.
Nasser Hussain recently spoke on the subject of best all-rounder in the world right now. If we look at the group of all-rounders in world cricket, then we can see a lot of young players with great potential. We have the likes of Hardik Pandya, Ben Stokes and even some of the older stars like Shakib-Al-Hasan who have been phenomenal.
Nasser Hussain talked about this to lengths. He was talking to SkySports when he mentioned that he would prefer Shakib over any all-rounder at the moment. It came as a surprise because everyone thought it would be Ben Stokes but he spoke on it as well. He talked about three best all-rounders at the moment, Hardik Pandya, Ben Stokes and obviously Shakib-Al-Hasan. Let us see what he had to say.
On Shakib-Al-Hasan
The former England captain said that Shakib is unmatchable at the moment. He has been superb at home and has shown his potential on numerous occasions. He also said that Ben Stokes is near but Shakib is better when it comes to white ball cricket.
“I think I am going to go for Shakib Al Hasan, actually. The potential of Ben Stokes is huge in white-ball cricket. I think Ben Stokes will be challenging in the next year or so to be the best all-rounder in white-ball cricket, without a doubt,” Nasser said while talking to SkySports.
On Hardik Pandya
Nasser was all praise for Hardik Pandya, he said that his knock against the Australians under pressure was brilliant. He was just at his best and the way he gelled up with the veteran Dhoni is magnificent as well. Pandya scored 83 from 66 deliveries as most of his runs came in boundaries.
“The same goes for Hardik Pandya. If you look at the knock he played the other day against Australia, India were 87-5 and to recover from that position with MS Dhoni – who is another up there for the best all-rounder – was exceptional,” said Nasser.
On Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes was marvelous in his recent Test matches. He scored a double century as well and that has earned him a lot of praise. Nasser said that Stokes is not necessarily a stats man. He won’t care about the statistics but will rise up to the occasion every single time. Stokes is one of those players who would give his 100 percent every single time.
He said, “Stokes is not a stats man really but he is a work in progress. When it does click completely though, he is just a phenomenon. He will just get better with age because of his attitude and his character. I don’t think Ben is driven by statistics.
“He’ll do nothing for three games and then he will have this performance that is just world class, doing things that other people cannot do with bat or ball. We saw a bit of that in the IPL and that experience will stand him in good stead. In terms of potential, I would say Stokes has got what he takes to become the greatest all-rounder,” he added.
