Bengal off-spinner Writtick Chatterjee achieved an incredibly mind-blowing feat after he claimed six wickets without conceding a single run. Playing for Bhowanipore Club, the off-spinner helped his team inflict a 253-run win over Mohammedan Sporting in a Cricket Association of Bengal First Division two-day playoff match on Saturday.

Chatterjee claimed wickets in his first, third and fifth balls of his first over to begin his wicket taking spree. In the second over, he once again foxed their opponents with two scalps in first and sixth balls and in his third over he wiped out the tail in the second ball to return with astonishing figures of 2.2-2-0-6.

His spectacular effort skittled out Mohammedan Sporting for 37 in 13.2 overs in reply to Bhowanipore Club’s 290 in 83.5 overs at the Deshbandhu Park ground.

“Everything went as per my plan and I could not hope for a better finish. I hope to hold on to this and win matches for Bengal. Hopefully, one day I will able to play for the country like many aspiring cricketers,” Chatterjee, who idolises Englishman Graeme Swann as a bowler, said.

Chatterjee, however, had a amazing chance to narrowly to equal former East Bengal medium pacer Shyam Sundar Ghosh’s feat of 7/0 in CAB First Division Knock Out match against Deaf and Dumb way back in 1963-64.

”I could not believe it myself. I was giving a standing ovation by my team mates as I walked off the ground,” Chatterjee was quoted as saying by sports website XtraTime on Saturday.

Chatterjee is a promising name in the Bengal cricket circle. He credited his coach Abdul Munayem for the turnaround. The coach, however, praised the youngster saying his self-belief made it possible.

“The best part of Writtick was his self-belief and confidence. He assured me yesterday that he will lead the team to the quarters, and he did it accordingly. I have not seen any spinner in Bengal apart from Utpal Chatterjee who bowled with such control. I feel he should get more opportunities for Bengal,” Munayem was quoted as saying by the website.
