Matt Renshaw made his debut during the Day/Night Test between Australia and South Africa at Sydney. He notched a patient 34 runs to take Australia past the finishing line. The year 2017 kicked off on a grand note for the Yorkshire-born cricketer as he piled on his highest Test score of 184 against Pakistan.

He was a part of Australia’s Test squad when the Kangaroos toured India for a Test series in March. With a solid defence and collected temperament, Renshaw garnered some useful knocks under his belt and subsequently earned appreciations from the cricketing fraternity.

After a string of lacklustre shows with the willow in the Sheffield Shield, Renshaw was left out of the Australian squad for the ongoing Ashes. However, Ricky Ponting, the former Aussie skipper has backed the youngster to stake a claim back to the Test team.
