England’s all-rounder Moeen Ali has admitted that he would have thought of dropping himself following his poor form. He said that the century against Pakistan at The Oval on Thursday was the best of the three tons of his career.
However, he turns things around as he scored a century in the 4th and final Test match of the series to give his side the upper hand on Day 1. His contribution with bat and ball was also crucial in England’s victory in the third Test at Edgbaston as he was also named Man of the Match.
Moeen thanked the selectors and England Test skipper Alastair Cook for showing faith in him during tough times. “I have to thank the selectors and captain Alastair Cook because I probably wouldn’t have picked myself at that stage,” Moeen said.
He didn’t have the best of the starts to the tour with a below-par performance in the first Test match of the series at Lord’s. “At Lord’s, I wasn’t on it and I was really embarrassed. That is when I decided to bat properly again, and I have worked on my defence with batting coach Mark Ramprakash. I was sick and tired of not scoring many runs for England; it was a little bit embarrassing,” he added.

This is Moeen’s third Test century and the second of the season after the first Test century at Chester-le-Street in May. “I think this was the best of my three Test hundreds. It will mean even more if we can go on and win the match and the series. I feel I have made an impact with the bat and I hope I can do the same with the ball,” he summed up.
