The Lahore Qalandars comfortably beat the Multan Sultans side by 42 runs in the summit clash to win the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). This is the first time that the Qalandars have lifted the PSL crown.
For a month, the players provided the fans with riveting action, with the bat, ball as well as on the field, and the crowds were thoroughly entertained by the cricketers in the T20 League. With the Pakistan Super League (PSL) drawing to a close, let us take a look at the best XI of the 2022 edition of the tournament.
1. Mohammad Rizwan
Mohammad Rizwan was in sizzling form throughout the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The right-handed wicket-keeper batter emerged as the 2nd highest run-scorer in the competition and amassed 546 runs at an average of 68.25.
Rizwan scored his runs at a strike rate of over 125, and also scored 7 fifties in the competition. And, for his superlative performance throughout the tournament for the Multan Sultans side, Rizwan walked away with the Player of the Series award.
Rizwan proved to be a pivotal member of his side in the 2022 edition of the PSL.
2. Shan Masood
Shan Masood is another batter who lit up the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with his fireworks with the bat in hand. The left-handed batter is the 3rd highest run-getter in the competition and plundered 478 runs in the tournament at an average of close to 40.
Masood also imposed his will on the opposition and scored his runs at a superb strike-rate of close to 140. Masood’s pyrotechnics with the willow at the top of the order helped the Multan Sultans outfit qualify for the summit clash of the tournament.
Shan Masood will open the batting in this side alongside Mohammad Rizwan.
3. Fakhar Zaman
Fakhar Zaman lorded over bowling attacks in the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The left-hander was the highest run-scorer in the PSL this year and plundered a colossal 588 runs in 13 innings.
Zaman averaged a good 45.23 with the willow this year and scored his runs at a tremendous pace, and his strike rate of 152.72 vindicates the same.
Zaman also scored a hundred and 7 fifties in the tournament as well. Zaman’s run at the top proved to be instrumental in the Lahore Qalandars emerging as the champions of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this year.
4. Alex Hales
England cricketer Alex Hales was in scintillating form for throughout the 2022 season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Hales amassed 355 runs in the tournament in 9 innings and emerged as the highest run-scorer for the Islamabad United side.
Hales averaged a healthy 44.37 throughout the competition, and also scored 3 half-centuries as well. Another facet that made Hales a threat to the opposition was the pace at which he scored his runs.
The right-handed batter scored his runs at a strike rate of 147.30 and imposed himself on the opposition with his attacking brand of cricket.
5. Shoaib Malik
The next place is occupied by veteran cricketer Shoaib Malik. Malik brought all his experience into play and emerged as the 4th highest run-scorer in PSL 2022.
The 40-year-old scored 401 runs in the competition and scored his runs at a healthy average of 44.55 and an impressive strike rate of 137.32. Apart from that, the veteran also plundered 3 half-centuries in the competition.
Malik’s good run with the willow helped the Peshawar Zalmi side qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament.
6. Mohammad Hafeez
At No.6, we have Mohammad Hafeez. Hafeez scored 323 runs in the tournament and scored his runs at a strike rate of close to 130. The right-handed batter also scored a half-century in the tournament as well.
With the ball too, Hafeez scalped 6 wickets in PSL 2022 and picked them up at an average of under 20. Hafeez’s all-round contribution in PSL 2022 with both bat and ball even though he is 41 years old earns him a spot in this side.
Hafeez won the Player of the Match award in the final of PSL 2022. While he scored 69 runs with the bat in the summit clash, the off-spinner also scalped 2 wickets with the ball as well.
7. Shadab Khan
Shadab Khan was arguably the best all-rounder in the tournament this year and generated stunning numbers with both bat and ball. Khan emerged as the 2nd highest wicket-taker in PSL 2022 and took 19 wickets in just 9 matches at an average of 10.89.
Khan also scalped 2 four-wicket hauls and a five-wicket haul as well. With the bat, the right-hander plundered 268 runs in 8 innings.
What made Khan a standout performer was the fact that he scored his runs at a tremendous strike rate of 162.42. Khan was at the top of his game this year.
8. Shaheen Afridi
Shaheen Afridi is the highest wicket-taker in the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The Lahore Qalandars’ skipper scalped a total of 20 wickets in the tournament and picked them up at an average of just 19.70.
Afridi produced a good performance in the summit clash with the ball in hand. The left-arm pacer picked up 3 willow wielders in the final, and also leaked runs at an economy rate of 7.50 per over.
Afridi also displayed his leadership skills at the young age of just 21 by leading his troops to their maiden PSL title.
9. Shahnawaz Dahani
Another pacer who produced stunning performances throughout the 2022 edition of the PSL was Shahnawaz Dahani. The right-arm speedster emerged as the 4th highest wicket-taker in the tournament and scalped 17 wickets in 11 matches at a superb strike-rate of 12.70.
Dahani hit the right areas, varied his pace, and always kept the batters guessing. Dahani’s standout performance came against the Lahore Qalandars in Qualifier 1.
In the 4 overs that he bowled, Dahani leaked only 19 runs and scalped 3 wickets to help his side to a 28-run win over the opposition.
10. Zaman Khan
Zaman Khan finished as the 3rd highest wicket-taker in the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The right arm pace bowler scalped 18 wickets in the tournament and took his wickets at an average of 21.50.
Khan’s best performance came against the Karachi Kings on 18th February 2022. In this encounter against the Babar Azam-led side, Khan sliced through the opposition batting lineup and scalped 4 wickets, leaking just 16 runs in the 3.5 overs that he bowled.
With his scintillating performance in the 2022 edition of the PSL, Khan has proven that he is here to stay.
11. Imran Tahir
Leg spinner Imran Tahir proved that age is only a number for him. The 42-year-old picked up 16 wickets in only 12 matches for the Multan Sultans side in the PSL this year and took them at a strike rate of just 17.20.
Tahir’s best performance came in the opening match of PSL 2022. The leg spinner scalped 3 wickets in the 4 overs that he bowled, and leaked just 16 runs as well. Even at the age of 42, Tahir’s passion for the game has not diminished one bit!
