The World T20 in India produced some breathtaking cricket. The competition witnessed some memorable wins and some heartbreaking losses. In one of the most dramatic finals ever witnessed at a world event, West Indies beat England by 4 wickets to take the trophy home. Here’s a look at the Best XI of the marquee event. His foot-down acceleration from the outset was not only crucial in the semi-final but also in the win over South Africa in the group stage. His 43 off just 16 balls gave his team a flying start against the Proteas in England’s successful chase of 230 runs. He spanked 78 off 44 balls in the semi-final against the Kiwis to take his team to the summit clash. He was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for his sublime form which made him the backbone of India’s batting line-up. He scored 273 runs with a staggering average of 136.50 and an equally impressive strike-rate of 146.77 with three 50 plus scores. The manner in which he kept his calm in pressure situations was incredible to watch. The team heavily relied on him and he did not disappoint. He never had to resort to slogging, and ended up with 249 runs at an average of 49.80 and a strike rate of 146.47. It was his knock of 83 off 44 balls that gave England the self-belief they were seeking after a defeat against West Indies in the opening match. His 2012 heroics are well known and he produced yet another magical knock under intense pressure in the final against England. His unbeaten 85 off 66 balls took the West Indies on the brink before Carlos Brathwaite stole the limelight from him. Samuels was superb in the group stages scoring a brisk 37 against England and a match-winning 43 in a low-scoring encounter against South Africa. He made 191 runs at an average of 47.75 and a strike rate of 159.16. His clear-minded and quick-footed aggressive batting helped his team on numerous occasions. He hit a wonderful unbeaten 66 off 37 balls against Sri Lanka and also looked in an ominous mood in the final against the Windies hammering 36 off 22 balls including 3 massive sixes. He scored 159 runs at an average of 32.25 and a striking rate of 126.47. He contributed with the ball and his left-arm spin provided his team with crucial wickets. He took 10 wickets at an average of 16.60 and an economy rate of 7.21. His spell of 3/27 against the Aussies kept his team in the game and was brilliant to watch on a batting pitch in Bangalore. He took 9 wickets at an average of 21.00 and an economy rate of 7.87. He contributed with the bat as well scoring 91 runs at an average of 30.33 and a strike rate of 142.18. He has good control swinging the new ball and gave his team crucial breakthroughs. He took 10 wickets at an average of 15.90 and an economy rate of 7.57. He played two important cameos for England in tense situations. His 20 not out against Afghanistan and 21 against Windies in the final took his team to two competitive totals.
