<p>The South African looked in fine form, gave his team strong starts. The left-hander started the tournament with a 52 off just 24 balls including 7 fours and 3 sixes against England in an enthralling match. He took a catch and effected a stumping in the same match. Against Afghans in the next match he spanked 45 off 31 balls and followed it up with a 47 off 46 in a low-scoring thriller against West Indies. The only time he missed out was against the Lankans when he scored just 9. His wicketkeeping was also brilliant throughout the competition.</p>

<p>Jason Roy was one of the finds of the tournament. His role as England’s aggressor at the top of the order produced 183 runs at a strike-rate of 148.78. His foot-down acceleration from the outset was not only crucial in the semi-final but also in the win over South Africa in the group stage. His 43 off just 16 balls gave his team a flying start against the Proteas in England’s successful chase of 230 runs. He spanked 78 off 44 balls in the semi-final against the Kiwis to take his team to the summit clash.</p>

<p>The Indian Test captain had a remarkable run in the tourney. He was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for his sublime form which made him the backbone of India’s batting line-up. He scored 273 runs with a staggering average of 136.50 and an equally impressive strike-rate of 146.77 with three 50 plus scores. <p>Joe Root was a class above his team-mates, and every other batsman in the tournament barring Kohli. He never had to resort to slogging, and ended up with 249 runs at an average of 49.80 and a strike rate of 146.47. It was his knock of 83 off 44 balls that gave England the self-belief they were seeking after a defeat against West Indies in the opening match. He was brilliant in the final and rescued his team with a 54 off 36 balls. He took two wickets as well and proved his off-spinning skills.</p>

<p>Marlon Samuels once again did it for his team in a big final. His 2012 heroics are well known and he produced yet another magical knock under intense pressure in the final against England. His unbeaten 85 off 66 balls took the West Indies on the brink before Carlos Brathwaite stole the limelight from him. Samuels was superb in the group stages scoring a brisk 37 against England and a match-winning 43 in a low-scoring encounter against South Africa. His clear-minded and quick-footed aggressive batting helped his team on numerous occasions. He contributed with the ball and his left-arm spin provided his team with crucial wickets. He took 10 wickets at an average of 16.60 and an economy rate of 7.21. His spell of 3/27 against the Aussies kept his team in the game and was brilliant to watch on a batting pitch in Bangalore.</p>
