The Indian Premier League is known for promoting the young talent in the world of cricket. The tournament has given the world a bunch of young stars in the past, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, just to name a few. The 9th edition of the tournament, too, has not fallen short of the expectations and has given a glimpse of some of the young talent that would surely go on to be the faces of cricket world in the future. The Delhi Daredevils opener lit the tournament on fire by scoring the first century of the season. His knock of 108 that came off just 51 balls stunned the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the early days of the tournament. The South African wicket-keeper was at the 9th spot among the leading run-getters in the season after the league stages. He mustered 445 runs in 13 matches at an average over 37 and strike rate close to 136. He remained the highest run scorer for his team and had there not been a couple of umpiring bloopers against him, he would have surely crossed the 500-run mark.

KL Rahul was known for his marathon innings in the domestic circuit. However, the Karnataka lad showed that he can be one of the key assets in the T20 format as well. KL Rahul hit 4 fifties in the league stages and was the ideal partner that a rampaging Virat Kohli could have wished for. In the 12 matches that he played, he scored 386 runs at a staggering average of 55.14 in the league stages. More importantly, he struck the ball hard with a strike rate of 147.89. He had 16 sixes to his name in the league stages, which in itself speaks volumes for the way he adapted to the shortest format.

The Karnataka batsman who turned up for the Delhi Daredevils this season had a phenomenal run with the bat. He was among the many young players from Delhi who rose to the limelight. Nair, who has a Ranji triple hundred to his name, scored a crucial 83 off 59 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad to keep the hopes of his side alive in the tournament when DD played their second last game. With 357 runs to his name in 14 matches, Nair averaged 35.7 and registered 3 half centuries this season.

Kings XI Punjab had a series to forget. They ended up at the last spot but were surely lifted up on various occasions by the performances of their Aussie all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. The young man from Australia made the most of the opportunities he got. He amassed 146 runs in 7 matches at an average of 36.5 and a top score of 52. He struck the ball fiercely too, and had a strike rate of 135.18. With the ball, he was equally affective. He picked up 8 wickets which included a four-wicket haul. He scalped 4/15 against the Mumbai Indians.

One of the many U19 players in action this year was Delhi’s Rishab Pant. Pant managed to get into the playing eleven in the later part of the league stage. He aggregated 198 runs in 10 matches at an average close to 25 and had a healthy strike rate of 130.26. He scored blitzkrieg 69 against the Gujarat Lions that announced him in the tournament. He was later lauded for the way he batted aggressively against the tournament’s most economical bowler, Mustafizur Rahman.

Krunal Pandya caught the attention of the cricket world with his all-rounder abilities. In the 12 matches that he played, he scored 237 runs at an average of 39.5 and a powerful strike rate of 191.12, the most among any batsmen in the league stage with over 10 matches. His top score of 86 came in just 37 balls against the Delhi Daredevils. He also had 6 wickets to his name with a best of 2/15. Clearly, the young man from Baroda has shown a lot of promise and can be tagged as one of the future stars.

The Rising Pune Supergiants surely did bow out of the tournament being among the bottom two, but they did find a big positive in young Adam Zampa. The Australian leg spinner has been a revelation for the Supergiants. He did not get his share to play in the first half of the tournament, but the 5 opportunities that he got, were enough for him to excel. He bagged a 6-wicket haul in his second game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He became the first spinner to take a 6-wicket haul in IPL history. He finished with 12 wickets in 5 matches with a best of 6/19. By the end of the league stage, he had the best bowling average among all the bowlers, just 9.58!

<strong>8. Yuzvendra Chahal – Royal Challengers Bangalore:</strong>

RCB’s Yuzvendra Chahal came to the forefront as a dark horse and bagged the Purple Cap after the last league game, with 19 wickets to his bag in 11 matches. His economy of 7.87 looked to be very decent for an RCB bowling line up that leaked runs at will in the tournament. With a 4 wicket haul to his name in the tournament, Chahal established himself as a regular face in the RCB playing XI. His spectacular show with the ball in the IPL saw him earn a national team call too, when he was named in the Indian squad for the tour to Zimbabwe.

Jasprit Bumrah came into the tournament with a heavy reputation. He had already impressed the cricket world with his consistent showing in the Asia Cup and the subsequent World T20. Coming in to the IPL 2016, Bumrah did not disappoint either. He was the second leading wicket taker for the Mumbai Indians and was among the top 10 wicket takers of the season at the end of the league stage. Bumrah bagged 15 wickets in 14 matches at a bowling average of 27.06 and strike rate of 20.8. His best figures of 3/13 came against the Delhi Daredevils at Vizag.

<strong>10. Mustafizur Rahman – Sunrisers Hyderabad:</strong>

The young Bangladeshi pacer made a name for himself in the world cricket with the kind of performances he put in the IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He continued his good show that he started during the ICC World T20 this year. Rahman was one of the top 10 leading wicket takers of the season at the end of the league stage and looked set for Purple Cap. He forged a handy bowling pair with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and choked opposition at crunch times. He was the most economical bowler by the end of the league stages, for any player with more than 10 matches, and had the economy of 6.71. In the 14 matches he played, he bagged 16 wickets with a best of 3/16. By the end of the season, he ended up as the 5th leading wicket taker of the tournament.

<strong>11. Sandeep Sharma – Kings XI Punjab:</strong>

Sandeep Sharma was one of the few positives for the Kings XI Punjab, who finished at the bottom of the points table. Sharma was the leading wicket taker for the team and bagged 15 wickets in 14 matches. He formed a good bowling pair for Mohit Sharma that almost seized the games for KXIP on many occasions. He bowled with guile and precision at the death with accurate yorkers. He was as miser as ever with an economy of just 7.32, which is impressive for a frontline bowler. He averaged 24.4 with the ball.

<strong>Special mention: Carlos Brathwaite – Delhi Daredevils</strong>

Well, we could only have four overseas in the young XI like the actual tournament. So we missed out on mentioning the big burly West Indian. But, he was one of the top young performers of the season too. Carlos Brathwaite was sensational with the bat, ball and the fielding alike. He inflicted key runouts and was acrobatic in the field. Playing against the Kolkata Knight Riders, he blasted 34 off just 11 balls. He bagged 7 wickets in the 8 matches he played with a strike rate of just over 19. With the bat, his strike rate was far more interesting; he bludgeoned the bowling lineups at a strike rate of 212.90.

<p>The Rising Pune Supergiants surely did bow out of the tournament being among the bottom two, but they did find a big positive in young Adam Zampa. The Australian leg spinner has been a revelation for the Supergiants. He did not get his share to play in the first half of the tournament, but the 5 opportunities that he got, were enough for him to excel. He bagged a 6-wicket haul in his second game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He became the first spinner to take a 6-wicket haul in IPL history. He finished with 12 wickets in 5 matches with a best of 6/19. By the end of the league stage, he had the best bowling average among all the bowlers, just 9.58!</p>

<p>RCB’s Yuzvendra Chahal came to the forefront as a dark horse and bagged the Purple Cap after the last league game, with 19 wickets to his bag in 11 matches. His economy of 7.87 looked to be very decent for an RCB bowling line up that leaked runs at will in the tournament. With a 4 wicket haul to his name in the tournament, Chahal established himself as a regular face in the RCB playing XI. His spectacular show with the ball in the IPL saw him earn a national team call too, when he was named in the Indian squad for the tour to Zimbabwe.</p>

<p>Jasprit Bumrah came into the tournament with a heavy reputation. He had already impressed the cricket world with his consistent showing in the Asia Cup and the subsequent World T20. Coming in to the IPL 2016, Bumrah did not disappoint either. He was the second leading wicket taker for the Mumbai Indians and was among the top 10 wicket takers of the season at the end of the league stage. Bumrah bagged 15 wickets in 14 matches at a bowling average of 27.06 and strike rate of 20.8. His best figures of 3/13 came against the Delhi Daredevils at Vizag.</p>

<p>The young Bangladeshi pacer made a name for himself in the world cricket with the kind of performances he put in the IPL for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He continued his good show that he started during the ICC World T20 this year. Rahman was one of the top 10 leading wicket takers of the season at the end of the league stage and looked set for Purple Cap. He forged a handy bowling pair with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and choked opposition at crunch times. He was the most economical bowler by the end of the league stages, for any player with more than 10 matches, and had the economy of 6.71. In the 14 matches he played, he bagged 16 wickets with a best of 3/16. By the end of the season, he ended up as the 5th leading wicket taker of the tournament.</p>

<p>Sandeep Sharma was one of the few positives for the Kings XI Punjab, who finished at the bottom of the points table. Sharma was the leading wicket taker for the team and bagged 15 wickets in 14 matches. He formed a good bowling pair for Mohit Sharma that almost seized the games for KXIP on many occasions. He bowled with guile and precision at the death with accurate yorkers. He was as miser as ever with an economy of just 7.32, which is impressive for a frontline bowler. He averaged 24.4 with the ball.</p>

<p>Well, we could only have four overseas in the young XI like the actual tournament. So we missed out on mentioning the big burly West Indian. But, he was one of the top young performers of the season too. Carlos Brathwaite was sensational with the&nbsp;bat, ball and the fielding alike. He inflicted key runouts and was acrobatic in the field. Playing against the Kolkata Knight Riders, he blasted 34 off just 11 balls. He bagged 7 wickets in the 8 matches he played with a strike rate of just over 19. With the bat, his strike rate was far more interesting; he bludgeoned the bowling lineups at a strike rate of 212.90.</p>

<p>The Indian Premier League is known for promoting the young talent in the world of cricket. The tournament has given the world a bunch of young stars in the past, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, just to name a few. The 9th edition of the tournament, too, has not fallen short of the expectations and has given a glimpse of some of the young talent that would surely go on to be the faces of cricket world in the future. <p>The Delhi Daredevils opener lit the tournament on fire by scoring the first century of the season. His knock of 108 that came off just 51 balls stunned the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the early days of the tournament. The South African wicket-keeper was at the 9th spot among the leading run-getters in the season after the league stages. He mustered 445 runs in 13 matches at an average over 37 and strike rate close to 136. He remained the highest run scorer for his team and had there not been a couple of umpiring bloopers against him, he would have surely crossed the 500-run mark.</p>

<p>KL Rahul was known for his marathon innings in the domestic circuit. However, the Karnataka lad showed that he can be one of the key assets in the T20 format as well. KL Rahul hit 4 fifties in the league stages and was the ideal partner that a rampaging Virat Kohli could have wished for. In the 12 matches that he played, he scored 386 runs at a staggering average of 55.14 in the league stages. More importantly, he struck the ball hard with a strike rate of 147.89. He had 16 sixes to his name in the league stages, which in itself speaks volumes for the way he adapted to the shortest format.</p>

<p>The Karnataka batsman who turned up for the Delhi Daredevils this season had a phenomenal run with the bat. He was among the many young players from Delhi who rose to the limelight. Nair, who has a Ranji triple hundred to his name, scored a crucial 83 off 59 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad to keep the hopes of his side alive in the tournament when DD played their second last game. With 357 runs to his name in 14 matches, Nair averaged 35.7 and registered 3 half centuries this season.</p>

<p>Kings XI Punjab had a series to forget. They ended up at the last spot but were surely lifted up on various occasions by the performances of their Aussie all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. The young man from Australia made the most of the opportunities he got. He amassed 146 runs in 7 matches at an average of 36.5 and a top score of 52. He struck the ball fiercely too, and had a strike rate of 135.18. With the ball, he was equally affective. He picked up 8 wickets which included a four-wicket haul. He scalped 4/15 against the Mumbai Indians.</p>

<p>One of the many U19 players in action this year was Delhi’s Rishab Pant. Pant managed to get into the playing eleven in the later part of the league stage. He aggregated 198 runs in 10 matches at an average close to 25 and had a healthy strike rate of 130.26. He scored blitzkrieg 69 against the Gujarat Lions that announced him in the tournament. He was later lauded for the way he batted aggressively against the tournament’s most economical bowler, Mustafizur Rahman.</p>
