BetBarter Tajikistan Premier League T10 postponed till September
The tournament was supposed to start on July 19.
Like Football and a few other sports, international cricket also returned behind closed doors earlier this month after a break of 117 days. Coronavirus pandemic had stopped all the cricketing activities. However, T10 tournaments took precedence in the absence of top-level cricket during this period and a lot of matches have been played so far. Tajikistan was also set to witness cricket’s return this month on July 19 with its very own T10 League.
But the tournament has now been postponed till September due to travel restrictions in the country. According to the earlier schedule, it was supposed to commence on July 19 and go on till July 29. A total of six teams, Wahdat Supergiant, Khujand Challenger, Kulob Knight Riders, Khalton Royals, Norak Warriors and Dushanbe Kings, are taking part in the tournament.
As far as the format is concerned, each team will face the other twice with 30 matches to be played in the league stage before the top four sides make it to the knockouts. While the tournament has only been postponed, the organisers seem confident of making it happen in September.
The country has registered around 7000 Coronavirus cases so far with 58 people losing their lives. While the lockdown in the country has been eased long ago, travel restrictions are still in place it seems and it has proved to be a hindrance for the Tajikistan Premier League to go ahead.
Lot of cricketing action in progress
Meanwhile, apart from the ongoing Test series between England and the West Indies, a lot of cricketing action is currently going on in other countries. European Cricket Series (ECS) T10 continues with the tournament in progress in Tallinn while Finland Cricket has organised Finnish Premier League. Even the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) launched its first ever T10 tournament with domestic players which commenced on Friday.
If the international cricket is concerned, England is set to host Pakistan next month for three Tests and as many T20Is. Australia is also supposed to travel to the United Kingdom for six limited-overs matches. The Indian Premier League (IPL), the much-awaited T20 extravaganza, will then get going in the UAE from September 19.
