Bharath Arun, Ravi Shastri’s ex-colleague, has been recalled by the BCCI as the bowling coach of the Indian team while Sanjay Bangar has been named the assistant coach. The names were announced in Shastri’s first press conference as head coach at the BCCI head quarters in Mumbai. It’s no secret that the former Indian pacer had the head coach’s backing. Arun had earlier replaced Australian cricket Joe Dawes in 2014.

Indian pace dynamo Umesh Yadav also seems to welcome the decision. Yadav’s consistency has been one of the major highlights of India’s successful home Test season. And the pacer revealed that he owes a lot of his success to the newly-appointed bowling coach who worked on his flaws during his previous stint with the national team.

The Test matches will be played with Kookaburra balls

According to the Times of India, lauding the former pacer, Umesh said, “The results showed because I worked on my bowling when I was getting in and out of the team. Bharat Arun sir used to work a lot with me when I wasn’t part of the playing XI. When I would be in Nagpur, it would be Subroto Banerjee sir (former India seamer) who would work on my technique. I am indebted to both.”

In the interim, the Vidarbha express is preparing for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka where Kookaburra balls will be used for Tests instead of the standard ‘SG Test’ balls used for matches in India. The 29-year-old pacer believes that with an old Kookaburra, a bowler needs to mix it up. A series of cross seam deliveries with extra bounce coupled by alternating short balls and Yorkers will be the ideal combo to send a batsman in dizzy.

The Men in Blue will kick off their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka on July 26 at the Galle International Stadium. The Indian team will play three-Tests, five one-day internationals, and one T20I.
