Like every other Indian cricketer, even Bhuvneshwar Kumar doesn’t have any cricket to play for the time being. It’s because the coronavirus pandemic has been wreaking havoc since the month of March. In fact, India is currently third on the list of COVID-19 affected cases after Brazil and the United States of America (USA) and the situation hasn’t improved as of now.
For Bhuvneshwar, even as he is spending time at home, he has also managed to stay connected to his fans. On Saturday, July 11, he conducted a question and answer session on Twitter. It wasn’t a surprise that the right-arm speedster was bombarded with questions from the supporters.
One of the users asked him to pick his favourite between Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina’s Lionel Messi, who both are deemed as two of the greatest footballers of the modern era. The user posed the question and wrote, “Messi or Ronaldo ??? #AskBhuvi,”
Kumar didn’t ponder much on it and named Messi, who has smashed more than 1,000 goals in full international and club matches. The 30-year-old Kumar replied and wrote, “Messi.” Interestingly, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is also an ardent follower of Messi. Ronaldo, on the other hand, has a number of fans, Indian skipper Virat Kohli being one of them.

Bhuvneshwar hasn’t had the best of years by any stretch of the imagination. He was one of India’s key players in the 2019 World Cup where the team progressed to the semis. But since then, injuries have turned detrimental to his career. In fact, in the last seven months, he hasn’t played any cricket.
During this while, India played against Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand. He was set to play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). But the tournament was earlier postponed for an indefinite time period due to the coronavirus outbreak.
He has also found it tough to break into the Indian Test team. He last donned the whites in India’s away series against South Africa in 2018. In 21 Tests, 114 ODIs and 43 T20Is, Bhuvneshwar has 63, 132 and 41 wickets respectively.
