Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has shut down the critics of MS Dhoni by terming him as a legend ahead of the third T20I against New Zealand. The former Indian captain has been the talk of the town in the last couple of days when he struggled to hit boundaries in Rajkot. His waning powers in the shortest format were clearly visible during the second T20I and many blamed him for the loss despite scoring 49 off 37 deliveries. However, Bhuvi feels that the presence of Dhoni is benefitting the team and nobody is bothered about his form.
Dhoni came in at a peculiar situation in the chase on Saturday last week with his team reeling at 65/4 in the 10th over. He needed to hit big shots from the word go but the veteran couldn’t do so and attracted a lot of ire from the fans. Even the former cricketers like VVS Laxman and Ajit Agarkar believed that he is no more needed in the shortest format of the game and advised him to retire. Though it looks like the team management has full faith in him and would want him to deliver in the decider in Thiruvananthapuram.
Bhuvi’s legendary reply
Bhuvneshwar Kumar lashed out at his critics ahead of the third and final T20 International against the Kiwis and said that he has been doing absolutely well for the country. “If you look at his record, nobody (team management) is really bothered. Whatever he has done, he has been doing well, he knows he is a legend. Whatever he is doing, it is benefitting the Indian team. No one has any doubts about him,” he told the reporters at the pre-match press conference.
Dhoni himself though would want to prove everyone wrong and deliver a powerful performance with the bat on Tuesday. This is not the first time when the demands of his retirement are on a high and he knows very well how to come out of the rut.
