Bhuvneshwar Kumar is in the middle of a rough patch courtesy of a back injury, which has been a major thorn in the flesh in the current part of the career. He is going through the same from this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), representing the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was ruled out off a few matches and the same injury carried over in India’s current tour of the United Kingdom (UK) as well.
He played a few T20Is against Ireland and England respectively, however, was ruled out of the final match at County Ground in Bristol. He played the last ODI at Headingley, Leeds, but couldn’t make a significant contribution. Horrors of horror, he wasn’t included in the Test squad for India’s upcoming tour of England, which gets underway from the first week of August.
The updates on India’s pace-duo
Meanwhile, in a bid to find his fitness and rhythm, the fast-bowler will undergo intense fitness rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore as per reports in ESPNCricinfo. Thereafter, his fitness will be tested by the cricket board’s medical team. It has also been learned about Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the squad after his hamstring injury.
“His [Bhuvneshwar’s] condition is being assessed by the BCCI medical team and a call on his inclusion in the test squad will be made soon,” a statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mentioned in their statement.
“Jasprit Bumrah, who has been included in the squad, will be available for selection from the second Test onwards based on his fitness,” the statement added.
The opening match will be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham on August 1. Lord’s, Trent Bridge, The Rose Bowl and the Kennington Oval are the venues of the remaining four matches.
