Bhuvneshwar Kumar's father loses his battle with cancer

India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar lost his father to cancer on Thursday (20th May 2021). It has been learned that Kumar’s father, Kiran Pal Singh breathed his last in Meerut after having fought a long battle against cancer and liver ailments. Singh, 63, was undergoing treatment in a Noida hospital but had joined the family in the last few days.

He had served for the Uttar Pradesh Police during his heydays and later opted for voluntary retirement as he was not keeping well health-wise. Bhuvneshwar, who is currently in his hometown, was taking care of his father and the remaining family, however, multiple diseases led to his father’s demise.

His father had reportedly undergone chemotherapy in Noida, however, his health continued to deteriorate after which he was taken to a hospital in Ganga Nagar in Meerut and was later shifted to another hospital in Muzaffarnagar. His liver ailments led him to suffer jaundice and he, unfortunately, lost his battle today.

Bhuvneshwar not a part of India’s UK tour

Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s name was missing from the list of players announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India earlier this month. India is set to travel to the United Kingdom to participate in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship final against New Zealand, which gets underway at the Rose Bowl, Southampton from June 18.

The team will then embark on a five-match Test series starting from 4th August against England, which is supposed to run until mid-September. While one set of players of India will be on their duties in England, a different-look team will be up against Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series including three ODIs and as many T20Is, all to be held behind closed doors at Colombo.

Even as Bhuvneshwar was not a part of India’s UK contingent, his presence in the team for the limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka is guaranteed. Notably, Kumar had been out of action since December 2020 due to injuries. He participated in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy earlier this year before making a comeback against England in the home series.

Kumar played the Indian Premier League too, which was halted midway after Covid-19 related issues. It remains to be seen whether he will be available for the Sri Lanka tour after this unfortunate development.
