While the Perth Scorchers went ahead and secured a win in the 2016 edition of the Big Bash League, the audiences who made their way out to the matches have been certainly over the million mark, something that has certainly gone well over the expectations of the organizers. While it is certainly the limited overs cricket that ensures that families come into watch the games, it would seem quite clear that this is the most popular format of the game at the moment.
Moreover, a statement from the event organizers read that the impact the fans have had in the grand scheme of things in terms of the event organization as well has been quite amazing, to say the least. Anthony Everard, the chief executive of the Big Bash went on to state that the 2016/17 edition of the Big Bash had well and truly exceeded expectations as well.
The high-octane format has proved popular, with more than one million people attending this season’s games at an average of 30,114 per match, CA said.
“Once again, fans have well and truly spoken and we couldn’t be happier with how this year’s competition has progressed on all levels,” Big Bash chief Anthony Everard said in a statement. “The season has well and truly exceeded our expectations”.
However, while this ‘tripwire sale’ of sorts has been a massive money-maker for the BBL as well as expanded the fanbase rather astronomically, the fact of the matter is that the venues for international cricket and Test cricket, in particular, has been quite pedestrian, something cricket administrators would have to address in the years to come in the overall context of cricket.
