Billy Stanlake to represent Yorkshire in the T20 Blast in England
The lanky pacer will ply his trade in the upcoming edition of the T20 Blast.
Australian fast bowler Billy Stanlake was a very consistent performer for the Big Bash League winner Adelaide Strikers this season. The bowler was rewarded for his performance as he was picked in the Aussie side for the tri-series involving England and New Zealand. The tall bowler impressed one and all in the first outing itself as he was named the player of the match for his brilliant spell where he picked up 3 wickets in 4 over spell giving just 15 runs. The Australias eventually clinched the trophy by beating hosts New Zealand in the finals.
Stanlake now has locked a deal with Yorkshire for the T20 Blast tournament in England. According to the deal, the 23-year-old can play 12 games in the tournament. If he gets picked for the national side for Zimbwabe tour later, Stanlake will join the side or else he will continue playing in the Blast as per the club Yorkshire. Two overseas players are permitted in the playing XI of the sides in the tournament. For Yorkshire, Kane Williamson is the other overseas player and Stanlake will join him in the side.
The club has already signed Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara for few games in County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup as their overseas player.
Billy a wicket-taking option: Martyn Moxon
Martyn Moxon, the director of Yorkshire Cricket told yorkshireccc.com they were delighted to sign Stanlake as one of their overseas player for the T20 tournament. He also mentioned that the team will be missing David Willey and Liam Plunkett during the first phase of the tournament and that Stanlake is a perfect option to have on the team.
“He’s a tall, fast-bowler with pace and is a wicket-taking option for us. Obviously, since then he has progressed to being a full international T20 cricketer so we’re really excited about him joining up with us,” Moxon told yorkshireccc.com.
“With David Willey and Liam Plunkett not available for the first period of T20, assuming they’re playing for England, he’s a nice fit for us,” added Moxon.
Stanlake said that he was excited to join the club for the tournament and hoped to have a great experience. He also hailed the club as a huge one with great history and tradition.
