A biopic on Jhulan Goswami announced
The movie has been titled as 'Chakdaha Express' tentatively.
After the tremendous success of MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar, a biopic on Indian woman cricketer, Jhulan Goswami has been announced. The cricketer is the highest wicket-taker in the world in Women’s cricket. Prior to this, the life of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and the former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni have been portrayed on celluloid.Indian women cricketers hogged the limelight in the recently concluded ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in England.
The tournament was the turning point for Women’s cricket in India as they stormed into the finals of the tournament and made the fans to take notice of their performances. Unfortunately, the team lost to hosts at Lord’s in the final by just 11 runs but they had already won the hearts back home in India. Jhulan Goswami the tall fast bowler was an integral part of the team right from the first game and delivered the spell of his life in the final which gave India a chance of upsetting England.
Movie titled as Chakdaha Express tentatively
The biopic on Jhulan has been tentatively titled as ‘Chakdaha Express’, albeit tentatively and will trace the journey of the cricketer from her hometown in Nadia district to Lord’s where India narrowly lost out on the women’s World Cup final to England. The movie will be made in Hindi and will be directed by the Bengal director Susanta Das. According to him, the scripting of the film will be starting soon and the shooting will begin in April next year.
“Shooting will be held from Chakdaha to Lord’s,” informed the director Das to PTI at Fanattic Sports Museum in New Town on Tuesday. He also said that they have shortlisted a few of the tall Bollywood actresses to play the challenging role of Jhulan. “I cannot tell you the names as they are yet to be signed. But we are in talks with leading Bollywood actresses,” he added.
Susanta Das hoped that the movie would inspire the upcoming cricketers in the country. “We have seen MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar’s biopics. But this will be the first biopic on women’s cricket. We will send our crew to wherever Jhulan has played. The focus will be her journey, the odds she overcame since she was 10. Hope it will inspire and motivate millions of youngsters. It’s about chasing your dream,” he concluded.
