Biopic 'Kaun Pravin Tambe?' to release on April 1, Shreyas Talpade plays lead

With cricket being celebrated as a religion in India, the nation has produced many prominent cricketers. From Sunil Gavaskar to Virat Kohli, numerous cricketers from the sub-continental nation earned global stardom thanks to their blitzes over the 22 yards. While leg-spinner Pravin Tambe couldn’t earn success at the highest level, he certainly became an inspiration for many. Owing to the same, a biopic is set to be released on his journey titled ‘Kaun Pravin Tambe?’

While Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade will play the lead, Jayprad Desai is the director. The biopic will be released on OTT platform Disney+Hotstar on April 1. Notably, Tambe, whose cricket journey has been all about self-belief and determination, made his IPL debut at the age of 41 in 2013. Contrary to the expectations, he managed to make a significant mark in the competition and even took a hat-trick.

At the age of 48, Tambe, in 2020, became the first India to feature in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). As the leg-spinner has defied one odd after another, several fans are excited for his biopic.

“After 17 years of playing the lead in ‘Iqbal’, I feel very fortunate that I am portraying Pravin on screen. The role and the story provided me with a once in a lifetime opportunity and I loved and treasured every minute of filming. I am very grateful to Bootroom Sports and Fox Star Studios and our immensely talented director Jayprad who envisioned me in this role,” Shreyas Talapade was quoted as saying by India TV.

“It’s an honour to represent Pravin and I will always treasure the time spent with him in preparing for this role which required a new level of dedication and effort from all of us. I hope our audiences not only enjoy the film but are touched and inspired by it,” he added.  Notably, the movie also features Ashish Vidyarthi, Parambrata Chaterjee and Anjali Patil in crucial roles.
