Indian captain Virat Kohli is currently one of the most outspoken and vocal personalities in the cricketing universe. His recent interactions with the media during the press conferences after the matches or his recent comment asking a fan to leave the country for not liking the Indian cricketers have drawn him a lot of flak. Former Indian cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi put up his opinion about the recent turn of events involving Kohli.

Bedi shares his views on the Kumble-Kohli controversy

The cricketing great from Punjab who never filters his mind said that Virat is doing as he desired and others around are just letting it happen. He also stated that it was the former Indian head coach Anil Kumble who decided to leave graciously. Kumble resigned as the head coach of the national team last year after his controversial disagreement with Kohli.

“That is what I am saying, one person (Virat Kohli) is doing all he wants and we are letting it happen. What would Anil (Kumble) have said, he was gracious to leave it like that,” said Bedi during the Sahitya Aaj Tak event.

He stated that Virat’s intensity is much higher than any other cricketer currently. However, Bedi feels that the Indian skipper needs to understand the difference between his intensity and that of the rest of the team. He also mentioned that there is a huge difference at this point in time between Virat as a player and as the captain of the Indian side.

“In my humble opinion, there is hardly anyone more intense than Kohli, but there is a world of difference in his intensity and the team’s. Similarly, Virat Kohli as a player and Virat Kohli as a captain, there is a world of difference,” he added.

The current Indian team is all about Kohli

The former Indian cricketer also spoke about the upcoming tour of Australia and he admitted that the current Australian side is a weaker unit, but he also believes that the previous two tours against South Africa and England were also weaker units. He reckons that the ban imposed on Steve Smith and David Warner was important, but the team is not just about two players.

“The Indian team is good, we all know that, but the same team went to England and South Africa and those teams were also “weak”. Yes, the bans have happened on two kids, but a team is not made of two individuals.”

“In fact, our team is made of one person, everything is about Kohli. The amount of focus there is, you don’t realize how much pressure you are putting on that kid [Kohli], both as a batsman and a captain,” Bedi concluded.
