The IPL 2024 is just around the corner, and there is not much time left. It is likely to start on March 22 and is expected to conclude by May 25, giving the players about a week to rest for the T20 World Cup in June in the West Indies and USA.
This year’s IPL will be the 17th edition of the competition that began in 2008. It comprises most of the biggest T20 names on the planet, a few of them being the role of a captain.
Captaincy is a huge task in the Indian Premier League. While there are many cricketing decisions to take, over a long tournament, there could be other factors for the captains to deal with. On one side, a captain must work on the tactics of the side and in a league like the IPL, the skipper should also represent the brand of the franchise.
Look at the list of the highest and lowest-paid captains of IPL 2024:
Highest Paid Captain - KL Rahul
KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, is now the highest-earning skipper in the IPL with a salary of INR 17 crore. LSG brought him on board before their inaugural IPL 2022 season. Rahul guided the Lucknow Super Giants to the playoffs twice in a row. Rahul is a seasoned batter who has also been keeping the wickets for his team, increasing his worth as a player.
Before Rahul, Virat Kohli also had a deal with Royal Challengers Bangalore that ran from 2018 to 2021 for INR 17 crore every season. Kohli accepted a pay cut to INR 15 crore after resigning as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Lowest Paid Captain - Aiden Markram
Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram is the least-earning IPL captain this year with a salary of INR 2.6 crore. Aiden Markram went for a steal price to Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL 2022 Auctions. After he won the SA20 with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, he was the obvious choice to replace Kane Williamson as the captain of SRH.
He was named the SRH skipper last year but failed to take them to playoffs. While he is the lowest-earning captain now, SRH could make a drastic change to appoint the highest-paid skipper in the history of IPL. Pat Cummins has a chance of leading SRH and if that happens, Markram will lose his spot here.
