An absolute thrashing from Rajasthan Royals (RR) leaves Mumbai Indians (MI) as the only team yet to open their account in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). The crowd flocked to Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium expecting their home team to get off the mark but Sanju Samson and Co. made it a one-sided affair, barring Akash Madhwal’s three-wicket spell.
The visitors won the toss and chose to field and got the start they wanted with elite pacer Trent Boult working his usual magic with the new ball. After a mini-collapse, captain Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma counter-attacked, but Yuzvendra Chahal also joined in the fun to make the MI unit more miserable.
The hosts, who slipped from 76 for 4 to 114 for 9, set a mere target of 126 runs against a formidable batting line-up. Yashasvi Jaiswal gave his side a flying start, and the momentum was carried forward by Riyan Parag, who scored a 39-ball 54. Royals registered their third win of the tournament, while Mumbai suffered three defeats on the trot.
