Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt buys team in the Masters Champions League: Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt who is serving a jail term till next year for his role in 1993 Bombay blasts had bought a franchise in the United Arab Emirates based Masters Champions League (MCL 2020).
His wife Manyata who has been looking after his business interests in his absence worked on the deal with the new league for retired international cricketers that will start from next year.
Talking to TOI about buying a franchise Manyata Dutt said that we as family have been passionate about sports and especially Sanjay has been an avid sports enthusiast since childhood. Dutt is expected to finish his sentence next year and until he comes out, talent management company CAA Kwan will manage the team.
Manyata said, “Like most Indians we are extremely passionate about cricket and just thought of owing a team with legends like Sehwag, kallis and Lara. It is pretty sure the MCL is a unique concept and will prove a valuable investment.”
Dutt first investment into sports was with Mixed Martial Arts, the Super Fight League that was formed in 2012 along with other bollywood actors. The Indian captain MS Dhoni’s close friend and manager Arun Pandey who owns player management company Rhiti Sports have also invested in a MCL franchise. Everymedia a digital agency is also believed to be purchasing stake in a team in the Masters Champions League.
