The 4th One-Day International (ODI) between India and Sri Lanka marked a historic day for the game of cricket and all cricket lovers. Former India captain, MS Dhoni touched the coveted record of featuring in 300 ODI matches, on Thursday. Notably, he’s only the 20th player worldwide to have achieved the remarkable feat.
All social media platforms were flooded with congratulatory messages from all quarters for the World Cup winning captain. While former cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to extend their heartfelt greeting to the man on his big day, Bollywood wasn’t far behind! From Anil Kapoor to Sushant Singh Rajput, many Bollywood bigwigs posted messages for the great cricketer.
Wishes pour in from Bollywood
Ahead of the celebrated match, Virat Kohli and his boys felicitated Dhoni. Kohli not only handed over a memento to his predecessor but also delivered a beautiful speech about having grown as a player under his mentorship and said, “You [Dhoni] will always be our captain.”
Having made his ODI debut in December 2004 against Bangladesh, MS Dhoni has had an astonishing track record as a player. Although he wasn’t able to make his mark in his debut and got out on a duck, he went on to become one of the best limited-overs batsmen.
At 36, the man possesses 9657 runs in the ODI format, at a staggering average of 52.2. His ability to finish matches in style and his calm demeanour, no matter what the situation is, have made him one of the modern day greats of the game.

Already armed with an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the 5-match ODI series, India won the toss in the 4th ODI and chose to bat first. While skipper Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both smashed centuries, Dhoni, himself, made the day even more memorable by scoring an unbeaten knock of 49 runs, that strengthened India’s total taking it to 375 runs. The visitors cruised to a victory by a mammoth margin of 168 runs, taking a 4-0 lead in the series.
