2. Srinivas Venkataraghavan v New Zealand, 1965:

An off-spinner who was both accurate and effective, Srinivas Venkatraghavan was a member of the famous spin quartet which foxed the best batsmen in the 60’s and 70’s. It requires great caliber to compete with the greatest off-spinner of India Erapalli Prasanna for a place in the Indian team and Venkatraghavan had it in abundance. The off-spinner, in just the 4th Test match of his career, declared the kind of talent he had in him.

After performing brilliantly in the first three games of home series in 1956 against New Zealand, the Tamil Nadu spinner saved his best for the fourth and the last match of the series, picking up his career best figures of 12/152 at Delhi. The New Zealander, after electing to bat first were rocked by the offie’s 8-wicket haul and could manage only 262 in the first innings. The Indians amassed massive 465 in reply. The Indian spin attack yet again got better of their opposition with Venkatraghavan snapping four more wickets to name as India won the match easily by 7 wickets.
