During the New Zealand tour of Sri Lanka 2009, all-rounder Jacob Oram became the second player to take a hat-trick in T20 internationals. Unlike Lee’s hat-trick, Oram got his across two overs. On the last ball of the 17th over, Oram got rid of Angelo Mathews as he caught and bowled. On the first ball of his next over, the 19th over of the match, he got the wicket of Malinga Bandara. He then dismissed Nuwan Kulasekara as McCullum completed the catch to earn his maiden international hat-trick. The irony was neither did Oram realize that he had taken a hat-trick nor his teammates. Oram realized about his achievement after he read a congratulatory mail from his parents that came after the match.

Southee got the better of him to get past his outside edge as keeper McGlashan completed the catch.
