Bowling will be our strength in New Zealand: Azhar Mahmood
"Bowling has always been our strength and it will be our strength in New Zealand too," he quoted.
Team Pakistan is all set to lock horns with New Zealand in some exciting limited overs action. Ahead of the big tour, the bowling coach of the Pakistan team, Azhar Mahmood, has created a buzz by backing the Pakistani team to excel in the tough New Zealand conditions. As per the quotes in the Express Tribune, Mahmood remarked that the players in the squad are in good shape and raring to go.
The statements from the former cricketer have come after three of their premier cricketers were omitted from the squad owing to injury concerns. Much like Azhar Mahmood, even Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed looked unfazed with injury blows. Mahmood noted that the batting continues to be a concern for them. At the same time, they hope their bowlers adapt well to the conditions.
“We have been training a lot and the players are in good shape and fit. They know they have to go to New Zealand and perform well for which they have prepared well. Pakistan batting has always struggled when they go out of subcontinent and the pitches of New Zealand are not easy, neither their weather conditions….The venues where we will be playing have a lot of wind which will make it difficult for the bowlers, but it will be interesting to see how our bowlers adjust to the conditions there,” quoted Azhar Mahmood.
On Pakistan’s bowling
Speaking further about the team’s combinations, Azhar Mahmood remarked that the squad has a good combination of pacers and spinners. He remarked that the team has always backed the bowling as it’s strength and the story will be no different in the coming series as well. Also, he insisted that the team is not taking the opposition lightly but is definitely keen on maintaining the winning momentum.
“We have a good combination of pacers and spinners. Bowling has always been our strength and it will be our strength in New Zealand too. Although we have won the Champions Trophy, we cannot take New Zealand lightly. They have a number of match-winners, so we have to be on our toes till the end of every match,” Mahmood quoted.
“We will have to maintain the winning momentum and to do that, we have to let go of complacency. Our bench gives us strength since we have a suitable replacement for all players,” he added further.
