BP XI vs Windies, Warm-up Match, Day 2, Review: Sunil Ambris slams a ton on a decent day for the visitors
Shane Dowrich and Brathwaite also hit a half-century.
Windies had a field day with the bat as they warmed up nicely for the upcoming Test series against India next week. They scored runs at a quick pace and could employ the same approach during the first game in Rajkot just to put the hosts under a little bit of pressure. Sunil Ambris was the star for them as he smashed a quickfire century and has sealed his place in the playing XI now.
The opening duo of Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell started well against the opponent’s opening bowlers. However, after spending some valuable time in the middle, they left the field in order to give chance to the other batsmen. After going wicketless in the first session, the hosts’ bowlers looked incisive. Avesh Khan, in particular, was brilliant as he sent back Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase in no time.
But then Shai Hope and Shane Dowrich stitched a decent partnership of 99 runs. The former was looking good before he was undone by Saurabh Kumar. Though he is partner continued batting well and slammed a half-century and was dismissed soon.
Ambris has some fun
Sunil Ambris entered the scene and things completely changed. He started to attack the bowlers even as the wickets continued to fall at the other end. Avesh was exceptional on the day as he pinned Jahmar Hamilton and Keemo Paul in front of the stumps. At 279/7, one would’ve felt that Board Presidents will come out to bat for some time. But Ambris attacked the bowlers and accumulated some quick runs.
He took Sherman Lewis along with him and farmed more strike to slam a sensational century. He eventually remained unbeaten on 114 runs off 98 balls with 17 fours and as many as five sixes. Windies ended the day on 366 runs for the loss of seven wickets after 89 overs and the visitors looked happy with their show.
