Sylhet Sixers registered their second consecutive victory in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2017. In their second game at the Sylhet International Stadium on Sunday (November 5) they defeated Comilla Victorians by four wickets. Sylhet Sixers skipper Nasir Hossain winning the toss elected to field first and his bowlers backed his decision by restricting Comilla for 145 for 6 in stipulated 20 overs.
For Comilla, Marlon Samuels scored 60 and Alok Kapali added 26, otherwise, no other batsman got going in the match as Krishmar Santokie and Taijul Islam picked up two wickets each while skipper Nasir got the important wicket of Imrul Kayes. While Liton Das and Kayes failed to give Comilla a good start and weren’t able to give support Samuels.
Openers flourish
In reply to Comilla’s 145 for 6, Sylhet chased down the total with one ball in hand. While commencing the chase Sylhet got off to a great start with the opening pair Upul Tharanga (51) and Andre Fletcher (36) who built a 73 runs partnership. Capitalising on the initial foundation, Sylhet skipper did the rest of the job to register their second victory in the BPL 5.
However, before reaching home they lost the wicket of key batsman Sabbir Hossain which created a nervous moment. Though the target was not so big, Sylhet failed to keep the momentum going after the opening pair set a 73 runs partnership. They lost the wicket of Shuvagata Hom and Ross Whitley cheaply which left a wrinkle in Sylhet’s dressing room before Liam Plunkett and Narul Hossain took the team home to keep them on top of the table with their four points.
