As the action is moving towards the business end in the ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the tempers seem to be soaring on the field. The on-field altercations between the players on the cricket field is not a new thing. And this particular edition of the BPL is certainly not short on this aspect. There have been quite a few instances where the players have been seen losing their calm in the middle of the cricket action.
The first of all these altercations was between veteran cricketer Mashrafe Mortaza and Chittagong Vikings pace bowler Subhasis Roy. The two were seen indulging in some heavy verbal duel when the Vikings had taken on the Rangpur Riders in the early days of the tournament.
However, both players managed to escape unscathed out of the issue as they admitted to their mistakes after the game. Most recently, Shakib Al Hasan was seen using foul language after the umpire turned down an lbw appeal from him. Shakib was slapped with 50 per cent fine of his match fees.
ICC rules on demerit points
In addition to that, he was also given three demerit points credited to his account. Similarly, three other cricketers have also managed to get 3 demerit points each in the BPL thus far. The rules of the ICC clearly state that if a player gets four demerit points, he will be handed a one match suspension. Amidst this ruling, it is very much probable that these four cricketers can be handed a one match suspension if they do anything wrong on the field henceforth.
The four cricketers in the picture are Dhaka Dynamites’ captain Shakib Al Hasan, Sylhet Sixers’ hard hitting middle-order batsman Sabbir Rahman, Comilla Victorians’ captain Tamim Iqbal, and wicketkeeper batsman Litton Kumar Das. All these players have already been fined 50 per cent of their match fees in the matches where they have lost their cool.
