The buzz for the sixth edition of Bangladesh’s very own franchise-based T20 league the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) got underway with the players draft that took place in Dhaka today. The season which was already deferred due to a clash with the general elections is scheduled to be played between January 5 and February 8, 2019.

Seven teams will contest for the coveted BPL 2019 trophy as Rangpur Riders will look to defend their title from their previous successful campaign last year. This season will see a lot of the new International players making their debut in the league. The Bangladeshi fans will see the of T20 superstars like AB de Villiers, David Warner, and Sandeep Lamichhane take the stage and set it on fire.

Of the 552 cricketers who registered for BPL 2019 draft, only 86 of them got the franchises interested. In all, each team was allowed with a total of 12 local players and 9 overseas cricketers to be featured in a squad of a maximum 21 players. The franchises were earlier allowed to retain four players with two players to be signed from outside the draft.

The league once again promises to be a helluva ride as the fans wait in anticipation before the start of every new season.
