Prior to the ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Sylhet Sixers appointed Australian stalwart David Warner as their skipper. The Sixers are one of the teams, who are yet to get their hands on the coveted trophy. However, the team hasn’t had the best of campaigns thus far in the T20 tournament as they are placed in the sixth position with two victories from five matches.

Their skipper has also strained with the bat in hand in most of the encounters, having scored 141 runs at an average of 35.25. Yesterday, Sylhet managed to beat the defending champions Rangpur Riders by 27 runs. Warner played a knock of 61 runs to notch his maiden BPL half-century. In the meantime, it has been learned that the 32-year-old left-handed batsman has developed an elbow injury.

He would be playing the next two games against Dhaka Dynamites and the Riders in Sylhet after which the veteran would be heading to Australia. However, the Sixers have managed to find his replacement in the form of Jason Roy, the swashbuckling English top-order batsman. The 28-year-old Roy is scheduled to fly out from London on Thursday to join the Sixers as per reports in Surrey’s official website.

A valuable inclusion for Sylhet Sixers

Roy has been one of the most sought-after players in T20 leagues around the globe and his inclusion is expected to come as a massive boost for the Sixers, who need to do a lot of work as they would be looking to qualify for the playoffs. The Durban-born Roy became the fourth currently contracted players from Surrey apart from Tom Curran, Aaron Finch and Liam Plunkett, all in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Roy has a truckload of experience in the domestic circuit as he has plied his trade in 188 matches in which he has notched 4815 runs at an average of 27.51 and a strike-rate of 146.04. In the erstwhile T20 Blast, Jason racked up 163 runs for Surrey in eight matches. Recently, he played for the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants in the Mzansi Super League (MSL) and impressed with some substantial knocks.
